G'Day JASON said "Would you dive with someone with that slim grasp of reality" I Wouldn't, but unfortunately a novice tekkie dosn't know the difference between an Instructor Trainer with 4hrs experience or one with 500hrs, its usually the shiny certificates/cards and the proffessional speak that the novice bases his choice on. Over my 8 years as an instructor (recreational diving) I have come across many so called Instructor Trainers from all agencies, they range from the PADI 'IT' who couldn't take his mask off underwater without panicing and bolting to the surface to the NAUI 'IT' who couldn't use his(NAUI)dive tables, during his lesson on an ITC. And finally to an AUSI (its new and stands for Australian Underwater Scuba Instructors) 'IT' who offered to take $600 from me to cross me over as an 'IT' no questions asked. The last example I don't condone but I can understand, it costs heaps to start a training agencie, but the first two are unforgiveable If we want to get rid of a scourge that is endemic to diving we need to 'OUT' the offenders. Using a medium such as this would be perfect,no advertiser to threaten to pull their business etc. I say that we should simply state the facts and then let the newely informed masses decide wether to use their services or not.( by facts,I mean what you saw not what you heard.) What do you people think? Paul O'Malley "Learn by discovery,if you live through p.omalley@qu*.ed*.au* the experience, you'll learn from it"
