Subject: Re[2]: dry suits with attached hoods
I purchased a small valve for just that purpose. I'm not sure that
that's what it was made for; I suspect that it was a purge valve kit
for a mask. It's a two part "flapper" valve. You cut, or punch out a
small round hole in the top of the hood (SCARY!!) and insert one half
of the valve body, then snap the other piece onto it. I made it
permanent with a drop of Aquaseal cement. The valve itself is a low
tech device; just the two halves of the valve housing and a little
     rubber one way flapper valve.

By the way, with proper technique, you don't need this little
accessory, although it makes life a bit easier. You can avoid
inflating your hood by exhaling through your mouth instead of your
nose. (when I exhale through my nose the breath bubbles out of the top
of my mask where it interfaces with the hood. Some gets inside).

The other technique involves "burping" the hood, but that takes one or
two hands, and usually involves getting some cold water intrusion.

I'm happy with the valve solution, although cutting a hole through a
new $1600.00 dry suit isn't my idea of fun.

How did you make a "little valve " for the hood, please?
