I'd asked why I needed to do deep air instead of tech. nitrox before trimix. My feeling is that there's no good reason for me to risk disabling narcosis on air at 160' when I could dive EAN 27. His response was that that was fine if I was always diving in the US near a gas station, but what did I plan to do when I wanted to do a 160' wreck dive in the bahamas and didn't have a corner store pumping nitrox? He argued that I needed deep air experience because I was likely to find myself using it some time in the future. I could have countered that I just wouldn't do the dive under those circumstances, but he has more training and experience than I so I chose not to. This was his argument, not mine, and I'm not yet sure that I buy it. Scott.
