Did you happen to catch that National Geographic/BBC special on TV a few months ago about Great White sharks? It was on at the same time as the Grammy awards show. Remember the second half of the show? At the Farallon Islands? Those guys in the little boat watching the sharks rip seals to shreds? One of those guys is my brother, and he's shown me a lot of the data and raw footage that didn't make it to the final version. While it may be difficult to find a white shark in an area where well-intentioned but misguided individuals have all but eliminated populations, there are definitely places where one would be ill-advised to ignore the possibility of shark problems, however remote they may be. A shark attack is roughly as likely as a first-stage regulator failure. I assume you incorporate backup regulators in your diving regime? There is no real need to fear sharks, but they sure as hell should be respected.
