Hello everybody My name is Juergen Poniatowski. I am living in Darmstadt (Germany) and at the moment I am doing my thesis work in aplied physics at the local Technical University. I am quite new in the field of technical diving and I am interested in the experiences of other people in this field. I started diving in 82 and have got a instructor rating of the German sportdiver federation (Verband Deutscher SportTaucher), the German CMAS branch, and I am teaching at the Darmstadt Universities and in my diving club. I have some experience in deep diving (-70m) with staged decompression (up to 45 min) both in tropical and in local conditions, both solo and with buddies. (Local conditions mean: diving in a lake, visibility up to 10m, darkness below 30m, temperature of 4 deg C). Up to now I am only diving on air, availability (and costs) of gas and mixing equipment is still a problem, but I am sure it is going to change in the near future. At the moment we are organising a group of people who are interested in high tech diving, here in Germany there are not so many people. We are only working on equipment and in theoretical questions (Trimix deco computations). I have heard of Nitrox courses in some places here offered by ANDI, but no further education to mixed gas. My personal field of interest is reabreather technologie. Some weeks ago I got a AUER MR 2 Oxygen Rebreather built in the year 1942. Despite of its age it was never used and it is in a excelent condition.(Even the 1.5 liter/150bar O2 tank passed the hydrotest last week :-). There is only the problem of the CO2 Scrubber at the moment. Originaly there is a one-way CO2 Scrubber cartridge used in this system, which is still available, but the price of about 100$ for three hours diving just for the scrubber is a little steep! At the moment I am working on a refillable scrubber box, and I am very interested in informations about different absorbents (in Germany we normally use the Draegersorb). Does anybody have informations about oxygen rebreathers (the nice little Draeger LAR V is with a price-tag of about 8000$ (and a notice in the COCOM list) a little bit too expensive for getting some experience in reabreather diving in the 0-7m range!)? Of the O2 rebreathers I know the Draeger LAR's, the Lt Lund , and certain u-boat escape devices, in the (semi closed) mixed gas class I know only the Draeger FGT und SMG's and of the closed circuit mixed gas rebreathers I have read in Tom Mount's mixed gas diving book, especially the CisLunar and Camellan rigs. I am very interested in further informations. Are there courses in rebreather diving somewhere in the world? No annoying air bubbles during a foto-dive and deep diving without a private crane for the tank-packs may be some promising aspects of close circuit systems. As an instructor I am interested in getting some personal experience of the diving gear of the 21 Century and, of course, in the educational aspects of the 'new' technologie.
