When I first read this my impulse was to write in and say sod the lot of
them and do what you want as long as you have been trained to do it and it
is within the range of your experience and confidence. If it makes your
dives safer and you were trained to use the gas to decompress on then I
think you should use it. On the point of liability in an accident I think
as long as no money has changed hands ( hence not under any HSE
regulations) then it would be minimal if not none existent.
Now what happens if you are prevented from using your deco gas and you end
up getting a bend, some smart lawer might be able to prove that if you had
used it you would not of gotten the bend in the first place and so the
person who stopped you using it caused you to get DCS.

That is what I was going to say, with some quiet thought and reflection you
have to remember that the qualifications the members of your club already
have will be counted as equivilants to the BSAC qualifications when they
start running their courses. It will probably end up be like the PADI/BSAC
equivilants. Do you stop a PADI Advanced diver from doing a 40m dive just
because his equivilant qualification is not a Sports diver? They may have
done 100's of this type of dive before.

My final point is that BSAC does not really have any laws as such. They
only have recomendations. There are no diving police out there to fine you
for not coming up with at 50 bar reserve of air, and no one is able to take
your qualification away from you if you do flaunt their recomendations. Who
is to say that your other IANTD (or whatever) is not good enough to do what
you have been trained for, just go on the dives as a guest of your club
(not as a member) and have your DO exempted from the responsibility.
