This is probably only of interest to BSAC divers, so apologies to anyone who's not interested. I was at the BSAC Diving Officers' Conference DOC) over the weekend, and several interesting points came up with regard to Nitrox. 1) The BSAC are looking again at the use of Nitrox by its members. There was survey carried out at DOC to find out if attendees were already trained inNitrox (or Trimix), how regularly they used it, etc. This survey will also be sent out to the general diving population. The new study will release results in March, but from some of the things said at the Conference, it seems likely (to me anyway :-) ) that nitrox is going to get the nod from the BSAC. 2) Maurice Cross, from the DDRC, gave a very enlightening ( and frightening,....) talk on the effect of diving on the brain and spinal cord. He also mentioned in passing that Nitrox was the best thing to happen to sport diving, in terms of safety, since the carrying of 100% O2 for DCI 3) Jack Ingle gave a presentation on a proposed Extended Range diving course (30-50m range). To cover multiple tanks, deep diving techniques etc etc - and the use of rich nitroxes as a deco gas..... If anyone wants more information about the DOC, just ask, I'll do my best to answer.
