Hi all on the techdiver list..... One or two notes for those interested in rebreathers...especially for those new to the techdiver listserver, who perhaps haven't the time to scour right through the archives (or like me who can't get access to the archives, even if they wanted to...!) Eric Lundquist maintains a current World Wide Web site on http://diver.ocean.washington.edu/rebreather.html This has some details on (I think) all of the models "soon to become available" (when ???). Recent additions are : A write up of the Oceanic 'Phibian'...together with a picture of the *insides* of the CCR-100 100m model. Interesting...! A write up and a photo of the BMD-SCR4 rebreather. (Is this actually for sale now...or is it yet another "nearly-ready" rebreather ??) A new & very clear picture of the 'Prism' rebreather in action. A clear picture of the Cis-Lunar Mk.4 in use (*when* do we get to see/try the Mk.5...anyone know out there ???) Other model discussed/reviewed not so long ago are : the 'Fieno', (Has anyone on this list actually *seen* or tried one of these ??) the Dreager (picture only, ditto comment) the Cis-Lunar Mk 4 the 'Prism' Conspicuously absent is *any* picture or write up of the rebreather that has probably been around the longest.. ie the original US Navy/Rexnord/Biomarine/Carmellan_Research rebreather. Can *anyone* provide some info please ? Can you still buy one ? If so, how much ? This www site of Eric's is probably the best (only ?) source of information concerning rebreathers on the Internet. Tell me if I'm wrong, please.... Some of the infomation is also echoed on the UK-Diving web site at http://www.cru.uea.ac.uk:80/ukdiving/equip/index.htm If anyone has any extra or conflicting information to add to either of these www sites, we all benefit so please 'give it your best shot'. Send email to : ericl@oc*.wa*.ed* or to : m.salmon@ue*.ac*.uk* nb. I contacted Oceanic UK a few days ago to find out current progress on the 'Phibian'. John Knight said that they now had 4 complete 'Phibian' units in England & would be starting 1-day "tryout" courses as soon as the heated (?) 10m deep (??) training pool is completed....perhaps in May (?) I hope to get on a course as soon as they will let me & will write a report on any info that isn't commercially confidential (as I did on the Cis-Lunar Mk.4 & the Prism). Any update news on the other side of the Atlantic, anyone ?? Anyone know when the 'Prism' is going to be commercially available ? There was a good article in the English 'Diver' magazine in the March '95 isssue. I suppose I could email the text if anyone really *can't* get hold of a copy...but might get into copyright problems...you should first try Eaton Publications (international fax : (England)181-943-4312 ) I dropped in at Orlando Dive Centre a couple of weeks ago, on a 'working visit' to Florida & spoke to Terry Tysall. ODC had a loan 'Prism' from Peter Readey and are currently offering training courses in use of the 'Prism'. Anyone want further info on this...contact Terry Tysall or Rick Richbourg by email at : rickr@su*.ne* Anyone got *any* update info on the Cis-Lunar Mk.5 ??? (I guess this is aimed at *you*, Kevin_G or Rich_P...or anyone else on the net with 'inside information') So, to date...lots of useful info, but many unanswered questions. Anybody got any more answers...??? Regards, Steve M. ************************************************************************** * * * * Dr. S. G.
