We dived a wreck (Mercedes) near Boca, Florida quite a number of years =
ago where one diver and his partner recovered the gigantic Holland SSB =
radio that was lying in the sand next to the wreck. I assume some =
previous divers had unbolted it?? The wreck had been down for about a =
week. He took the radio home and washed it out with fresh water and =
alcohol. After drying he plugged in power and it worked (at least on =
receive). There's something to be said about good conformal coatings and =
sealed parts in marine electronics.

I had a researcher bring a laptop to my lab that they had just =
completely submerged in seawater (while jumping wakes on one of the =
runabouts). I poured seawater out of the thing. I was on my way out to =
teach a class so with little time I flushed it under the faucet with =
freshwater, rinsed it with alcohol, and set it on the counter to drip =
and dry. It worked for a month before the hard-disk controller failed. =
However if you drop a single drop of water in a Nikonos SB102 strobe the =
thing almost blows up.=20
