I've got a pair of 120s and have been looking at other tanks. I bought them as
doubles, but split them because I didn't have all the equipment for doubles.

I've gotten used to the ease of use for river diving and shallow wrecks with
a single air tank with a nitrox pony for stops. I need to doulbe them up now,
but don't want to be restricted back to 80s for other dives where I can't bring
the doubles. I tested the weight of 104s and the 120s with manifolds before
purchasing and made my decision based on weight. For my next tanks, I think
the low pressure 95s are going to be my chioce. Overfill 'em and I have 120s.
All of the things about O2 mixing and weight come into play. I'm not big, so my
limiting factor will almost always be my buddy(s), not me.I suggest you lift
a set of doubles filled with manifolds and see how heavy they are. If you
think you'll need lead too, put it one. This will give you a better feeling
for which will be heavier in practice. Low pressure tanks will take more lead
off your belt.

There was a posting that said most people have stopped using manifolds for two
single tanks. My question is WHY? What type of diving (deep, cave, wreck, etc
) are you doing? A wreck finder/trimix diver uses a diaper and cane now 'cause
one of his separate single tank life-supporting gas delivery systems failed. He
his other mix wouldn't support his life for an ascent!!!, so he bailed like a
missile from 230+ ft.He also didn't have enough gas for an safe ascent.

It seems to me that he didn't have redundant air supplies for the various
mixes that he needed. Doubles are the start of this. If you have to take a deco
mix bottle or two, do it.I don't mean to harp, but if you can't use the
air in both tanks 'cause you don't have a manifold, then your rule of 1/3s
should become a rule of 1/6ths as you may loose a full tank if a reg fails.
Do you use Y or H valves? If you're doing shallow diving, I apologize for
getting excited, otherwise explain yourself.
