Pat, As for testing your knowledge prior to the fact, this is a moot point. If the class is worth a damn, it should add to any amount of knowledge that you currently have. The true culmination of technical diver training is definately not taking a written test, rather a real understanding of equipment, decompression theory, advanced dive planning, etc. Mastery is shown during the dives, and the test serves two purposes. THe first is an opportunity for the student and the instructor to use it as a learning tool, the second, sadly, is a record tht may serve in a court of law should one feel the need to enter that ball game.
