Joey,
Is this kind of attack really necessary?? I don't see anything of
substance in your retort that helps to resolve this difference of
opinion.

(Compare with that on the south coast of
England I heard 2 years ago reports of naval divers on operations attacking
sport divers who they found underwater while on operation,

I see "naval divers" and "coast of England" neither of which
indicates to me that we're talking about a US Navy sat diver.
The military is not immune to making major blunders in the
presence of a percieved threat (whether the threat is to National
Security or an individual's ego). The downing of an Iranian airliner
by the USS Vincent (?) and a couple of hot shot F-15 drivers
mistaking a couple of US Blackhawks for Soviet Hinds comes to mind.
I see no viable argument that this incident did not take place.
That is not to say that it did. You have no more information to
decide if this did or did not take place than anyone else so please
lighten the tone to a subtle "I disagree" style.
Mr. Appleyard has posted an (unnecessary IMHO) apology for
relating a story he heard. Maybe you should consider an apology
for your (unprovoked IMHO) attack.

Warm regards,
C.
