Nicolai;

I am not certain of what your question is, so my answer is to what I understand
what you are asking me:

I don't have really one "local" dive shop. One of my friends and dive buddies
(who is also the Technical Director of Hydronautics) owns a shop in Brooklyn, he
is also a Halcyon dealer. Another friend and dive buddy owns a shop in
Manhattan, who was PADI, is now SSI and already GUE Tech1 and Cave1 certified,
who will be doing his Cave 2 in a few weeks). I organized with the latter a DIR
Fundamentals class with MHK and Andrew Georgitsis. Despite that, I am making
point of not having ONE dive shop, for the simple fact that I am an independent
diver who thinks for himself and making my own decisions.

But if I am getting good advise regarding a gear item, I get it from the person
who advised me well, meaning I don't obtain the advise from one person and buy
it from another one cheaper.

I am spending enough money at different shops to keep them all happy and they
all accept my way of thinking.

Now, I think that the dive shop has to have one important feature: NOT anti-DIR,
at least!

Hope that helps.

Udo
