This is my thoughts on the matter, being rather poor... First let me state this 1 you can go from basic to tech ( which is the route from mix ) or 2 if you have no interest in mix you can go from basic to advanced, That is to say you just want to use nitrox as a bottom mix and decompress on a higher % of O2. Which you choose depends upon what you finally intend to do, and lets remember we have (hopefully) all acccepted the use of trimix etc etc but the vast majority of other agencies/divers have not. So option 2 is the option that the external agencies ( NOT IANTD ANDI TDI ) will at the most accept... If you intend to dive with these agencies what would be the point in spashing out the greater cost of tech when a considerable amount of the course will never be needed.. when you can spend less and obtain your aim by doing a advanced course.. If feel that people doing the advance course may not want to do trimix. I state again having done basic you can go straight to tech...there is no need to do the advanced.. Also the Basic course is that 'basic' an introduction to nitrox that any diver can take, to extend its content to decompression hangs etc etc switching etc etc, may be slightly disasterous to a PADI diver who has not been deeper that 40m has never carried bottles any where else upon thereselve other than their back, and ahas not done decompression stops in open water, on a delayed SMB.. let the basic course be basic..then choose the path that you want.. IMHO the more poeple that take the one bay basic course the better and lets face it even a novice diver is capiable of it, the safer this sport will be, to be honest I have a vision of the future where you are taught to dive on nitrox and if you want to extend you depth horizon you will be taught to dive on air then mix, but with the advent of rebreathers this may never come, or will it... It would also be interesting to see if the complains are coming from people you have actually payed the money and are dissatisfied with the content of the TECH course or people who are considering the courses and just moaning about the money...
