I agree...however CO2 is narcotic as well and can slow comprehension like elevated partial pressures of nitrogen can. and we all know the more gas you consume (the harder you work) you are increasing your chances of accumulating CO2 likewise increasing chances of bodily harm. At depth your body cannot rid itself of gasses like it can at the surface. Ventilation is less efficient. If your scooter fails...yes, use your back up scooter--your buddy should be carrying it for you--get a tow from him/her. :o) ~Allyson -----Original Message----- From: Esat Atikkan [mailto:atikkan@ya*.co*] Sent: Thursday, August 09, 2001 12:28 PM To: techdiver@aquanaut.com Subject: Re: scooters = Lazy? In reality scooters R not just for extending range, but also reduce effort, thus reducing CO2 production,, a putative contributor to diving nasties like DCS, oxtox & narcosis (OK the last one is not an issue with trimix). Thus scooters R not for the lazy, but for the thinking diver. My concern is - what happens if the scooter quits x hundred ft from the anchor line? Back-up scooter?
