Well then you'll at least need basic ;).

I think you're probably seeing the information equivalent of genetic drift
in the answers you're getting.  I just finished an IANTD basic nitrox course
*yesterday* and no one told me I was certified to dive any mix between
29% and 36%.  I was told that I could dive 32% and 36% +/- 1%, and that if
I wanted to dive custom mixes I needed a technical nitrox cert, which would
allow me to call for any N2/O2 mix I could dream up.  Go figure.

Perhaps air would be best, but if I'd been diving air yesterday I'd probably
still be in the chamber :).
