Ed, Nice troll, but I'll still bite. Guess I'm just stubborn regarding ignorant people who haven't dove the "DIR setup." I couldn't be sure if you are ranting against the gear configuration or the entire DIR mindset. My interpretation of what you're saying is that since the majority of divers don't dive DIR, it must be bad. I seem to recall a time when Nitrox was considered evil and hardly anybody dove it. I believe there was a time when "deep air" was acceptable. Seems a lot of those people have either changed their minds or died diving deep. Doing something simply because it's mainstream has always struck me as being stupid. But then, I consider myself an individual. I can see why you would say that DIR goes against "the majority of diving standards known today." After all, buddy awareness, efficient gear configuration, physical fitness, and good diving techniques have no place in the average PADI/recreational diver's life. Regarding your paragraph analyzing the psychological makeup of flamers: It's a insecure and/or immature person who cannot tolerate having their views and beliefs questioned. Oh no! I guess that was my unstable, uncertain, egotistical, and machoistic personality feeling threatened. I could say that you should dive DIR before you make up your mind, but I think I'd be wasting my breath.
