Thom,
Are you sure that you've had a good serious look through both the =
archives, and the web sites for the discussed agencies. If you have, I =
am surprised that you have asked this question.

This is my own opinion, but I'm sure others would agree. For a business =
to function within a global market, they must be profitable. No one will =
disagree with this fact.

You can make a profit supplying a high quality product.
You can make a profit supplying a crap product.

Thousands of dodgy businesses world wide can attest to this fact. Switch =
on your TV and watch some infomercials.

Companies who supply crap product often rely on hype to create a target =
market. They take a marketable product such as tec diving gloss it up, =
add in many unnessary steps to gain margin, then sell it along with =
enough clauses to escape a serious law suit.

Companies that supply a high quality product have nothing to fear. =
Nothing. They can charge a profit margin to grow their business and fund =
research. People will pay what they ask.

The consumer really has no one to blame but them selves. With =
information as readily available as it is today, it is up to consumers =
to seek out businesses which provide the products they require. Then =
research these companies and make a decision based on the information =
they have found.

I am not going to comment on what businesses I favor. Anyone I care =
about already knows what I think. But if you seriously look, even just =
at the web sites of the various agencies around, It should be very clear =
who is out to sell crap and who is there to sell quality.

DIR is not free, The correct gear is more expensive. If you want cheap I =
suggest frisbee throwing.=20

DIR Theory is free, and available at your finger tips if you take the =
time to do the research.=20

If you fall for a glossy poster on the wall of your local dive store =
selling "tek" diving. I would suggest that Technical diving was never =
for you in the first place.

If you need help finding the sites needed, mail me back and I'll copy =
you my bookmarks.
Kind regards
Chaz Sherman

Just as a thought. I read a post a little bit ago that called Mount =
and IANTD and others money hungry for offering classes. While I am not =
disagreeing because I am lookinh at haveing to pay for an advance class =
eventhough I am proficient in what I would learn from that class I still =
need to take it to move into some of the other classes I would like to =
take. I was diving with an x instructor this last weekend who confirmed =
that I would not benifit much from an advanced class and suggested that =
I would fair better to spend that money to improve my gear. Which I =
agree but back to the point. DIR I assume also charges for classes as =
well? So why would your opinion be different about DIR. A business =
cannot exist without profit. I am not trying to put any orginization =
down but it sounded like that post was as blind as the people they were =
talking about.

I learn a lot from this list and also weed through the BS and I know =
this is technical diving so promoting the sport falls by the way side in =
order to minimise risks. The people on this list already took the plunge =
into diving for the most part. So I can understand the bickering. =
However, because people make money for what they teach in my eyes is not =
a valid argument in and of it's self. Unless DIR is free then I =
apologise

  Thom
