>So you _fully_ understand all of the equipment that you use ?, car ? pc ?, >the list is almost endless. > >PRC Actually, Paul, I make it my business to have a pretty damn good understanding of anything I bet my life on. I have enough automotive knowledge to inspect and maintain basic safety issues on my vehicle, and although I may not be able to fix every problem by myself, you can bet that I pay attention to anything that can kill me. When I was a grunt, I had intimate knowledge of my personal weapons systems so that I could fix damn near anything that didn't require a trip to the armory in the field. Now, I am required to have an extremely detailed knowledge of how my aircraft works, and am tested on this knowledge periodically to ensure that I can effectively preflight my bird, and carry out EP's in flight should something go wrong. I sure as hell have a handle on deco theory, because It's damn near suicidal not to. As I said in a previous post, it's all about survivability. I'm no good to anyone dead, so I try to minimize the possibility of that occurrence. Ignorance and blind trust are sure ways for someone to end up in a bag, whether it's diving, driving, or flying. As far as my PC, my toaster, my telephone, etc.--I'm pretty damn sure that a bad video driver will not cause me serious bodily harm or death. But I sure as hell don't stick knives in the toaster.
