The following statement has been issued to all BSAC Instructors with issue 30 of the NDC Bulletin. "The BSAC has decided to enable the use of Nitrox by appropriately qualified members on BSAC dives and activities, with effect from 1st May 1995. Appropriate guidance on its use will be published in the May issue of Diver Magazine and in a special edition of the NDC Bulletin. The BSAC also intends to offer training and certification in Nitrox use, from the end of 1995. Preparation of the necessary training and support materials has already begun. It has been decided that there will be two levels of qualification: BSAC Nitrox Diver and BSAC Advanced Nitrox Diver. The BSAC will be adding this skill to its existing suite of Skill Development Courses. Recognition of other Nitrox training agency qualifications will also be published." I welcome this (well overdue) announcement. Presumably this decision means that the Extended Range Diving Skill Development course announced at DOC 95 will also go ahead. This covered deep air diving, no clear surface and the use of travel gases. BSAC certification and training will now cover all mainstream diving outside of specialities such as Cave Diving and Mixed Gas Diving. It will be interesting to see how PADI and the specialist Nitrox Training agencies respond. Regards Doug Scott [UK] Doug@ds*.de*.co*.uk* Compuserve [100025,31003] Tel & Fax +44 1483 576730
