You guys are so full of shit. Have you ever filled a tank? If so, then did you ever open the "bleeder valve"? It's the same thing, only that's done THOUSANDS of times. Let me explain. If the plug is installed and the valve is bumped "on" the first step is to turn the valve "off". At this point you have a tiny amount of gas (<2cc) trapped in the orifice representing a very small amount of energy. Next you grab a wrench (an 8" Crescent works great) and easily back the plug out approximately 1 full turn, at which point their is a slight "hiss" (this is also what happens when you bleed a fill whip). At this point you can unscrew the remaining 7 threads of (95,000 psi tensile strength) material out of the valve by hand. You MAY have to put in a new o-ring (std. 2-112). This is why the plugs were designed, to HOLD the gas in so that you don't show up at the dive site with empty tanks in the back of your truck or trailer. The threads don't shear off and the plugs don't become projectiles, unless of course you're in Hollywood working in the movie industry. Get real.
