Dear all, I am sorry to say so but feel truly uncomfortable as casualty reports are sent into the forum and some people (always) laugh at the dead. I feel bad when I read senior divers (the ones who have the responsibility/call to lead the community in philosophical, ethical and technical matters) do so. This gives a very bad image about the sensibility and ethics in the diver community. Most people neither "choose to die" nor go through serious accidents for "fun", as some people in this forum want to put it. It is a tragedy every time this happens, it hurts everyone in some way and it changes forever the life of family, friends and colleagues. Anyone can do a mistake and anyone can be hit by a series of random, unlucky events. My first supervisor at Lund University, a good, straightforward, sincere, intelligent, icelandic marine biologist, Dr. Einar Olafson, died in a diving accident. We had lots of research plans, real team spirit and I was the first to get the news. Everyone who knew him felt truly down, everyone was deeply sad and people who laugh about this kind of things are extremely offensive, _____extremely_____offensive_____. Please, think over this. Maybe ... you should sometime throw a flower, a stone or a coin into the ocean as you glide into the water ... to remember those who passed away. I do it. cheers, aldo.solari@ho*.se* www.ccbb.ulpgc.es/fish-ecology/solaris ___ -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
