It's worse than we thought.. The ad hoc dive plan was to 320' on air,
with no deco gas.. He had twin 120's and was following his computer until
it cleared deco..
The survivor reports seeing him at 290' heading down to the anchor at
318'...
Solo, on air at 320' with no deco gas...
Need we say anymore????

Mike, this is what the dive industry teaches and preaches " good on
air", and "depth" - two very important things in the tiny little mind of the
strokes who teach diving, and the agencies they work for. Now, even PADI.
Three of these agencies have "deep air record holders" as their
presidents: Mouth at IANTD ( whom we have all heard tell students that his
"personal comfort level on air is 200 feet", Gilliam at TDI who broadcasts
his love for deep air, and that drooling idiot Hal Watts at PSA .
Tolerance of stroke thinking in any form is unacceptable to me. I
treat them all like the cockroaches that they are, and if everyone else did
the same, it would eventually become stigmatic to be a moron.
Mike, I would love to dive that bank again, but I can not fly out to
help you and Johnny Walker due to work. If you find that guy at all, the
sharks are going to have eaten him anyway.

John Walker and I are doing a body recovery tomorrow from yet
another deep air fatality..
Facts are reported to me by the USCG..
Two guys on a private boat go to Farnsworth bank ( backside of
Catalina). The plan was for diver 1 to dive first while diver 2 stays
topside to watch the boat..
Diver 1 dives to 260' solo on air, when he get's to 10' diver 2 gets
into the water.
Diver 2's profile was planned 280', on air, solo and NO deco gas..
On top of that he brought his video camera..
After diver one gets on the boat he doesn't see any bubbles and
tries to call the USCG but the radio doesn't work. He later flags down
another boat and the USCG responds..
BTW, these guys were trimix certified but chose to do this dive on
air.. I spoke earlier today with the parents of this 39 year old guy and
next time anyone tries to defend this kind of idiocy I'll have them call the
parents of this guy and let them hear the pain in their voice...
