In this type of diving, we fall into the trap of trying to solve what should be non-problems with complex equipment setups, non-standard gas mixtures, and so on. This is another of those cases. A properly trained diver who practices working with valves on real dives, will be able to quickly put a hand on that isolator valve and rotate it in the correct direction, and fully close it. The action should be instinctive, so that it will happen correctly under high stress conditions. The diver will be able to do this whether that valve is partially open or fully open. When it comes time for mixing, that diver will be able to ensure that the valve is fully open. If for some reason, the tanks are filled with the valve closed, that same diver will detect the error, probably before loading the tanks in the vehicle. Get rid of the paranoia by practicing diving skills. With respect to diving skills and ability, it does not matter whether that valve is partially or fully open. With respect to the equipment itself, there is no reason to have the valve partially open -- open it all the way. What do I do? Until this question came up, I dived with the valve 3/4 turn open (that's a little less than two twists of my wrist to close it). This question has caused me to rethink my logic for doing this. Because I can close that valve quickly, an extra two twists of my wrist won't make much of a difference in the time required to do it. If anything, it was stupid for me to dive it partially open, because I had no need to allow for a lack of skill in closing it! It's so good to be free of the paranoia! -Randy ------=_NextPart_000_0003_01C0C721.685960B0 Content-Type: application/ms-tnef; name="winmail.dat" Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64 Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="winmail.dat" eJ8+IgYNAQaQCAAEAAAAAAABAAEAAQeQBgAIAAAA5AQAAAAAAADoAAEIgAcAGAAAAElQTS5NaWNy b3NvZnQgTWFpbC5Ob3RlADEIAQ2ABAACAAAAAgACAAEGgAMADgAAANEHBAARAAkAIQAAAAIAGQEB A5AGAAQJAAAmAAAACwACAAEAAAALACMAAAAAAAMAJgAAAAAACwApAAAAAAADADYAAAAAAB4AcAAB AAAAHAAAAElzb2xhdGluZyBNYW5pZm9sZCBRdWVzdGlvbgACAXEAAQAAABYAAAABwMdC7YCc+ZO+ My4R1YYUALDQLAAKAAACAR0MAQAAABgAAABTTVRQOlJBTkRZQE1JWEVER0FTLkNPTQALAAEOAAAA AEAABg4AjozrQsfAAQIBCg4BAAAAGAAAAAAAAACZMwl1ZQHSEYiSAKAkW+yBwoAAAAsAHw4BAAAA AgEJEAEAAACmBAAAogQAAEQHAABMWkZ1qaHmWAMACgByY3BnMTI1FjIA+Atgbg4QMDMzTwH3AqQD 4wIAY2gKwHOwZXQwIAcTAoB9CoGSdgiQd2sLgGQ0DGAOYwBQCwMLtSBUaGUyIAWwaWcLgAdAIHER ClBzdGkCICB3YQkEIHNoCGBsZCB0pxPhBAAG8GF0BbF2B0AqdhPwYhPwZhWgbHntFABwCfAUASAK sRTgB0DdF3UuCqIKhAqASQOgFeAbBAAV0HkXsBQAZiBk9mkSIA8gLBUgFyEYcRYQhQIwbxXTdHJh cBqSfRxgeRsBFdAcABYxFuF3LxDwBUAVdRcRbgIgLXBzA2ACYGVtBCAD8BXgIIUFoG0LUGV4IGUU oB8FIAeAAjAVYBEwdXBzLxswHtIU0ABwZAsRIGfxFUFtaXghMAlwIWEh8X8dcRQAGPATwRohGiEA cG//FeEFwByyFYARIB/gFUAHkN0j0EEYEANgF7ByF3EcYf8LgAmAGsIkwR3gHAAfEADQ9RTgYweR dwWwEmEdMB+j/xazBCAVAQlwFHEnIiFhA/A/G6EXEQGgH1AdQiCBY2vJF3FwdQVAYSAQ8CNRfxUB FeAeARYtI0IDYAGQdP8WAS0hGeIlYQWwCXAn8BrB7y+yFPEjJBdEYwkAJVEfsL8j0irxMEMeKQuA FNFuJ/F/FuAbMCOBLPQFQCqTEPBwdxeyL4UXcXUSgCTBGhBn/x/QFNAi8QQgBaASgB+wFPHvJcET 0iclKq1kHAIaIR3g/xEwJLIs8xa0GiEYLBfiF0j9I9BXE+ADoC7hH/EHkRTg/weAFzAFsSKhGwMs 8zhPK0N9CfBzIuEs5BXiOvc8qkn/GrA+khYwPmEp0RYwMIEcI+0AcGskUUFBZiqhJvEfo8tByDFT ZD81c2E+YT+pvwEALrAv0RXiBJADYHIbMH8fEisRF4AXED6RE/AJAGF/GtAdIkSnLxUW4BoQMVBl 7RkLRxEwKcBpLKElAhPw/wqxJHEHMBcAK/En1B0SGtTvFWASYBdgJcFXH7Ii8Rewf0jiOYFQCiMz AaADEB+wef8bMC7hOaAHkSSBIpAWYC6w/ydiOk87XDyNUP1JEyCHH7D5ESBsZkRzQUEaIR7QRAWf HUIQ8BbhQcg7jS0tF5TvLuEbkhXiFTB5PUI/chwA4kk5kT8gVQIwAxEaA/8UpyWAPmEhQBswX1En MUXPeDMvNBXQCHAX0ReyKP0s8ickUUqwH7A14EqhNwJ/LPEZ4ShgZXEEAFmgGpJtvReAdwUQFNAd QjFWKSPV5xSnEPA3IWF1RwEikCtDvwlwGgFE8GZSCQAUQGM+g+85oEsEBAAj0EIFkGkCX0H/JYA1 YTFjVUkrlSMiIGAiwE8ccGV/ZoUoYG4nVDJr/RPwbRLAH9AaoSxQGtABIP9aMTOQMyIcFD5SCXAg gQlx7zllMbJDUQBweWniGyE0kv8VQiExTeE+kzlUJzEu0hgs/xswFxBr9hDwFcBaoSbgc3T9GHFv B+A+kmRRANBqIBqh31BjLwIxUh0SH7AhQ0BkEvkjgWdvBHAdQhcSCdFODtIhGRotUiHxeRkaGRQF EeEAgTAAAAMAAHwFAAAACwABgAggBgAAAAAAwAAAAAAAAEYAAAAAA4UAAAAAAAADAAOACCAGAAAA AADAAAAAAAAARgAAAAAQhQAAAAAAAAMAB4AIIAYAAAAAAMAAAAAAAABGAAAAAFKFAAAnagEAHgAI gAggBgAAAAAAwAAAAAAAAEYAAAAAVIUAAAEAAAAEAAAAOS4wAAsADIAIIAYAAAAAAMAAAAAAAABG AAAAAAaFAAAAAAAAAwANgAggBgAAAAAAwAAAAAAAAEYAAAAAAYUAAAAAAAALABaACCAGAAAAAADA AAAAAAAARgAAAAAOhQAAAAAAAAMAF4AIIAYAAAAAAMAAAAAAAABGAAAAABGFAAAAAAAAAwAZgAgg BgAAAAAAwAAAAAAAAEYAAAAAGIUAAAAAAAAeACiACCAGAAAAAADAAAAAAAAARgAAAAA2hQAAAQAA AAEAAAAAAAAAHgApgAggBgAAAAAAwAAAAAAAAEYAAAAAN4UAAAEAAAABAAAAAAAAAB4AKoAIIAYA AAAAAMAAAAAAAABGAAAAADiFAAABAAAAAQAAAAAAAAALADKACCAGAAAAAADAAAAAAAAARgAAAACC hQAAAQAAAAIB+A8BAAAAEAAAAJkzCXVlAdIRiJIAoCRb7IECAfoPAQAAABAAAACZMwl1ZQHSEYiS AKAkW+yBAgH7DwEAAACCAAAAAAAAADihuxAF5RAaobsIACsqVsIAAFBTVFBSWC5ETEwAAAAAAAAA AE5JVEH5v7gBAKoAN9luAAAAQzpcV0lOTlRcUHJvZmlsZXNccmJvaHJlclxBcHBsaWNhdGlvbiBE YXRhXE1pY3Jvc29mdFxPdXRsb29rXG91dGxvb2sucHN0AAAAAwD+DwUAAAADAA00/TcAAAIBfwAB AAAAMgAAADxOQ0JCSUlKQ0pKSkRDTkNPSUpJQUtFRVBDUEFBLnJhbmR5QG1peGVkZ2FzLmNvbT4A AAADAAYQJIZWlwMABxBQBQAAAwAQEAAAAAADABEQAAAAAB4ACBABAAAAZQAAAFRIRU9SSUdJTkFM UVVFU1RJT05XQVNTSE9VTERUSEVJU09MQVRPUlZBTFZFQkVGVUxMWU9QRU5PUlBBUlRJQUxMWU9Q RU5JTlRISVNUWVBFT0ZESVZJTkcsV0VGQUxMSU5UT1QAAAAAMkQ= ------=_NextPart_000_0003_01C0C721.685960B0-- -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
