Don't do this any more. You've identified one problem, the reg is not immediately available (have to put your arm under and pull it over the shoulder (I can retrieve my over the shoulder (shorter hose) reg at the same time I'm deploying my long hose or just grab it with my mouth, no mucking around). Another problem I found was that the under the arm routing meant the hose interfered with stuff on the right chest d-ring. Then you've got the issue of the canister light cable if you're using one (I have my light head on the right hand (I don't own a scooter, nor likely too), guess if it's on the left it's not a problem?).
