Well, the urge to dig one's heels and argue the point here is quite strong.
So is the urge to try to flame back. Both of these would get me nowhere and
provide you all with fodder for more flames. Fact is that I do not time my
stops to the second. My instructor never taught me to time to the second
either. I recently downloaded an upgrade for my Abyss program that
incorporated the RBGM algorhytm. It appears to me to be the first program
that incoporates deep stops as an integral part of the profile; not as
optional add ons. To this new trimix diver, this seemed like a good thing.
Problem is that the program uses fractions of minutes on some of the stops.
Hence, the reason I was inquiring about the stopwatch function timer.
Like I said before, I am a new Trimix diver and my exposure to experienced
trimix divers has been limited. I do, however, try to glean information
from every source I can find; books, articles, lurking here on Techdiver and
talking with other divers when I get the chance. I had the chance today to
talk with two GUE instructors who I trust and respect. I took a sample
dive plans using Abyss RBGM, Abyss-150 and the Abyss-120 algorhythms and we
sat down and compared them to the Decoplanner. As they discussed the ins
and outs of the plans, it was an eye opening experience. I learned a lot
from these guys today; both on deco theory and on procedure. Looks like I
am one step closer to doing things right (oh god! Did I just say what I
think I just said? LOL). I still have a long way to go, though. Also looks
like I will be downloading the Decoplanner. I also got some very good tips
from a couple of posts that my question generated so I do not think that my
questions here were in vain. Although I did take a bit of a (deserved)
thrashing over them.
Mr. Rodriguez,
It was unfortunate that I was not able to dive with the AUE while I was down
here this season. Between being off for surgery and working mostly
weekends, our schedules did not connect other than the one night dive on the
Duane back in December. I was really looking forward to diving and learning
from you all. Perhaps next season.
