Jason, It had to do with the lack of research data and concerns about solubility effects with argon. Most algorithms just look at the diffusion rates and perfusion, which works well with Nitrogen and Helium, as the solubilities are not that dissimiliar. However, argon is another story as to solubility. In the uptake and distribution of anesthesic agents, solubility plays a major role (as can be seen in the establishment of anesthesia with Enflurane and Isoflurane, different solubilities, same molecular weights and diffusion rates.) The problem is, we do not know how to "adjust" the models to accurately take into account this solubility factor. John
