Dear All, New subject time!!! After the recent posts: deep nitrox, trimix standards, and recently IWR. I'd like to bring up the subject of argox decompression. I know there are a few disadvantages to argon like: 1. equally or more narcotic than nitrogen 2. no readily available tables (research) However, argons molecular weight relative to nitrogen may make it more soluble, but I think the rate of ingress into tissues may be slower hence for a given time less may be absorbed. Anyway I propose the following dive schedule for discussion. Descend on air, swap to trimix for bottom portion of dive (trimix as per depth and WKPP standards), on ascent to surface use argox mixes instead of nitrox, finally deco at on 100% O2 at 6m / 3m stops. The deepest depths at which argox can be used would be governed by narcosis potential (i.e. how many times argon is more narcotic than air). The benefits of the above schedule would appear to be that introduction of third gas on ascent allows N2 and He to be offgased to max. effect.. Another option if a bi-mix of argon-O2 were too narcotic might be to introduce a tri-mix of argon-nitrogen-oxygen for the ascent gas. yours Jon. ############################################################################## Jon Dann Christopher Ingold Laboratories Chemistry Department University College London e-mail: J.Dann@uc*.ac*.uk* 20 Gordon Street tel: 0171 387 7050 ext. 4651 WC1 HOAJ ############################################################################## p.s. sorry for long post, but its friday and I can't align my spectrometer.
