Jim,

There are valves that connect to an external catheter and allows
the diver to "pee" thru the valve into the surrounding water.

This works fine, as does the depends.  The key point with either system
is to control the rate at which you urinate.  Too high a flow rate
will either spill over the depends, or can cause the external catheter
to leak.
