What's the difference to you between giving out the precompiled
version vs. the source code? What are the consequences for you?

Why not? Seems kind of strange to me that you can serve the compiled
version on a plate, but not the source code. Maybe that is because I'm
paid by a company that uses, develops and relies a lot on open source
software, and that most software I've developed in my free time I've
given out under an open source license. What we see is that by going
open source, suddenly you get a lot of contributions, patches,
suggestions etc. for free (if you like).

I appreciate your honest answer. And to be honest, is seems to me
that you're a little selfish for no perticular reason. No
offence. Your precompiled software is probably appreciated by many,
but you could do others an even greater favor by releasing the
source - and you will suffer nothing.
