I have serveral Halcyon defender spools and a Halcyon pathfinder
reel. The simplicity of the defender spools make them superior. Also
the pathfinder is excellent.

There is only one thing to be aware of with Halcyon/EE-products that
have steel screws in aluminum plates: the screws will corrode the
aluminum (because of difference in electrochemical potential).

I wanted to grease up my spool today, and the screws barely came out
in one piece. When doing the same with my ten months old Goodman
handle on a standard EE light head, one of the screws just snapped in
two, leaving half of it inside the plate under the lighthead. I now
have to go to a machine shop to see if they can drill out the
remaining part and re-thread the plate.

I think by most standards, I'm _very_ thorough about rinsing all my
gear after every dive. So if you go for a pathfinder or any other gear
with aluminum held together by screws of some other metal, make sure
you take it appart every six months or so and grease it up real good -
especially if you are diving in salt water.
