I don't think there's any way to know that except to note that Al and his family are scuba divers. He at least would have more first-hand knowledge of some of the issues surrounding diving. I also think he is a better candidate for diving as a whole because of his long-standing commitment to ecological issues. Issues that directly affect and ARE affecting cave and technical diving sites around the world. Since he also has a demonstrably quick technical mind I think he'd be more likely to understand the complex issues that confront tech divers of all stripes.
