I have seen this before and I've never seen the book so it must have been in a Dive Training article that Gilliam wrote. Perhaps I was having an attack of "benefit of the doubt disease" at the time (they don't happen often), but my sense of what Gilliam was saying in the article was that blowing off a safety stop to get on the boat with 750 psi is just plain stupid and that you really shouldn't chug down five cups of coffee and a six-pack of Jolt cola and then claim you are diving "drug free." I agree with both of the above positions. Perhaps I was reading something into the article.
