By the way, another member just pointed out to me that the same book encourages
drinking before diving and surfacing with just enough air to prevent water from
getting in one's tanks. Here are the excerpts:

"[Why must we] always be back on board the dive boat with a minimum of
750psi? Can you cash in that for credit at the air fill Bank & Trust? ...
wouldn't it make more sense to suggest arriving at the decom bar or the
anchor line at about 15' with 750psi remaining? Then use up the air for a nice
5-7 minute safety stop. As long as you don't completely drain the cylinder
there is no chance of getting water in it ... [so] why waste 25% of your air.
Use it underwater." ---Deep Diving, Bret Gilliam, pg 310

"[Who says] you can't dive if you have a beer for lunch? This is the real
beauty of twisted logic ... consider for a moment that alcohol has the same
effect on anti-diuretic hormone (ADH) suppression as does caffeine in soft
drinks, coffee and iced tea. So until the storm troopers want to curtail the
diving of everyone having a cup of Columbia's finest over breakfast or the guy
who knocks back a six pack of Coke routinely, I suggest this may win the Medal
for Pious Absurdity ..." ---Deep Diving, Bret Gilliam, pg 311

Mind you, this book is directed towards technical divers doing very deep dives.
Simply amazing.
