A buddy of mine ("Wiz") is a Viet Nam Marine that is just a mess. One of the
few *real* cases of PTSD
I know of. I met him at one of the Marine Corps birthday parties years ago.
He is a great guy, and electronics wizard (hence the nickname), but about as
stable as nitroglycerin. Called in an arty strike on his own position, which
was being over run. Horribly wounded, mentally and physically scarred
forever.

He is a junkie, cant hold a job down (100% disability, but he tries to work)
and about every six months or so, he ends up beating the crap out of someone
(usually a boss or phony Nam vet), and getting tossed into the local "Home
for the Bewildered." He calls it "Fruit Loop Land" as one of the staples of
their diet is Fruit Loops. This is an American breakfast cereal, and in the
nuthouse, it is used as currency, much as cigarettes are used in prison.

Basically, "Fruit Loop" is a colloquialism for someone who outwardly,
obviously, mentally unstable.
