Don-

Mixing station? No, what you need is a whip and a group of like-minded
divers to pool your resources with. You can whine and moan about the
injustices of the world all you want. Or you can go out and do something
about it. Your choice.

Jim,

All this is true as long as you have your own mixing station in your garage.
If you don't, then you need to get hosed by the agencies for a bunch of
classes leading up to the eventual destination of being certified. I agree
fully that it is common sense not rocket science. The problem is that the
agencies and instructors are making a living off all of the pre-requisites
they say are needed to be able to take a tank into a dive shop and get a
trimix fill.

While I am not discounting the need for proper training, you don't need
squat for certification to dive with trimix. I have yet to see a industrial
gas supplier ask for a c-card for tanks of 02 and He. And as far as the the
air tops are concerned it's pretty much a "don't ask, don't tell" policy at
the dive shops I've visited. If your diveshop is an asshole about this, then
it's time to move on.

Personally I believe that if you are proficient at mixing nitrox and are
currently mixing it on a regular basis, there is no reason one earth why you
can't shitcan your nitrox wrist computer, get DecoPlanner for your laptop
and go trimix diving. It ain't rocket science, folks.

No kidding! I'm doing it right now, adv. nitrox, stage deco and

have to do a deco class to use trimix. It seems to me they are

separate subjects. You won't get a fill without it though.
