The weightbelt goes outside with wetsuits, inside with drysuits ( drysuit you need it to offset the suit, and do not need to get rid of it). The open water halcyon thing has nothing to do with DIR, as it obviously does not carry over into the rest of diving. It is an accommodation to thick wetsuit diving or drysuit diving with OW gear where you need a lot of weight. I use a weightbelt, but then I use the correct drysuit or the correct wetsuit. The DIR material I've read suggests the use of a weight belt when diving wet (should not be required when diving dry). Of that, little is recommended. Seems to me a standard weight belt would be worn OUTSIDE of the crotch strap - it is suppose to be ditchable. This added belt, buckle, etc. is the origin of this thread. The Halcyon ACB, integrates to the harness, eliminating the extra buckle (and belt) while maintaining ditchable function. I would think it would also serve to help keep the canister in place, by virtue of it's method of attachment to the harness (waist) webbing. But then I could be totally off base on all this - this is why I am trying to learn. Quinn -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
