Probably as a result of the way you solicited the advice!

Use a second buckle as do others. I remove my kit to get into one of the
boats I use, so could lose the light otherwise. Here are a couple of things
to think about:

*	For the buckle that holds the light in place (and this one only), I
slip it onto the waist belt inside out. That is, with the lever next to the
body. My rationale for this is that if I ever need to remove the light it
will make it easier. First, I have to undo the conventionally clipped waist
strap, then I can pull the right hand waist strap tail out to the right and
this then provides easy access, either single or double handed, to the light
buckle lever. In the "conventional" arrangement of lever outwards on a
light canister, you can find that actuating the lever is to some extent
obstructed by the light canister itself. This is especially true if the
light is accidentally tightly jammed too tightly against the backplate -
there should be some movement if properly set up.

*	With all weight belt buckles, check the angle of the jaw. It should
be just a tad *over* 90 degrees. If not bend it slightly - this is why I
only use steel buckles. The effect of a "just over 90 degree" clip is that
it snaps into place as it passes the 90 degree angle and becomes almost self
locking. Many clips are correctly angled, some are not!

Thanks for all the replies about weight belt and harness buckles...
and I didn't even get flamed! ;-)

I will think about it and probably either use the halcyon integrated
weights or not worry about having two right hand release.

As far as the harness buckle holding the light canister in place, it
seems a little problematic. For one, when I take the harness off the
light would slide off. I prefer to have a separate buckle.

Cheers,
