Rich.
On the subjet of ascent rates heres my two cents worth.

We have habitually now used 'deep washout' stops on trimix jumps. This is always
on an intermediate Eanx mix (usually the travel gas) and the stop is always done
at the maximum ppo2 (1.6bar) and is of a couple of minutes duration. Assuming
that you believe the schedules you are cutting work - you must do else you would
not use them! when this deep stop is put into the profile it does numerically
shorten the in water time. If used as an addition to any schedule it follows
that the safety edge is worth having.

I don't know if anybody remembers, but Jean-Pierre Imbert from Comex gave a
presentation on the deep explorations that they did in Fontaine Vacluse. They
had a couple of incidents of severe neurological DCI for no apparent reason.
Further investigation revealed that these were (in commercial terms) relativley
short duration 'bounces'. Following this deep additional stops were added to the
schedules and and further incidents occured.

Regards

Chris
