In my view whether JJ covered this issue or not isn't the fundamental point.
I have no doubt JJ covered many issues during his alloted time. Moreover,
I'm sure there are still others that may have additional questions, or who
may not have been available when JJ covered the issues.

Education, discussion and an open airing of the issues are what's important.
I fully acknowledge others have varying viewpoints from mine. Life is full
of choices. It seems to me that the anti-DIR crowd is very worried that as
more people develop the requisite understanding of the system, the more it
makes sense; the more acceptable it becomes; and more and more divers accept
the totality of the system.

I often have these discussions, and generally what I do is focus on a few
simple concepts. In that I suggest that at least we are presenting
something. Many seem to want to just argue the anti- *anything* approach.
I always suggest let's go line by line. What do you believe in your system
is better than what we believe in the DIR system and why??? I have little,
if any, tolerance for someone who just wants to argue for the sake of
agrguing. If you have a position, put it forward and let's discuss the
merits.

This idea actually came up when I was visiting Seattle last month for a DIR
demo. Jerry and I met for the first time, we enjoyed discussing the issues
and Jerry mentioned this forum. I thought it would be a good idea to
participate. I'm not sure why there is such a firestorm surrounding the
issue. If you want to join us fine, if not, that's fine as well..

My views respecting DIR are well known. I have also had the opportunity to
have a wide variety of experiences on both coasts. I was born and raised in
NY and have lived in Calif. for the last 10 years. I learned how to dive in
NY, I go back often, I also visit Florida often, and it is VERY apparent to
me that each of these areas have very different *personalities* in terms of
diving philosphies, conditions and idiosyncacies..

I would welcome divergant views, but I will not engage in a flame war.
That's not my interest. I leave that for the tech list ;-)

Hope to *see* as many of you there tonight as possible, but please if your
intention is to just flame I'd rather you didn't join us. I hope to make
this a productive meeting not a flame fest.

Regards

Michael Kane.
