Subject: acclim. to narcosis using nitrous oxide

It would probably be a very bad idea to try to build up any form of
resistance/immunity to narcosis using nitrous oxide. Firstly the mechanism by
which they work is different even though the effects are similair. Nitrous
oxide works by inhibiting the enzyme methionine synthase (at least this is
one of the effects it has). The end result of this is depletion of the levels
of methionine in the body. This leads to megaloblastic anaemia as well as
problems associated with brain function (memory deficits, demylenation to
name but a few). On top of that it is addictive. So my advice is don't!!!
