I'd suggest a better approach is to fit a right handed octopus too, but with
a longer hose. In this scenario, you get to breathe normally from your own
octopus, and when you've calmed your buddy down you can pass the hose across
to your left behind your head and have your buddy breathing normally on your
left hand side. I've tried this for lengthy swims with my rig and it works
very well.

What about side vent regs such as Posedins or the Ocenaic Omega ?? They work
either way round - I dive with an Omega as backup reg on a 2m hose - it means
that either a buddy can use it in an air out situation or I can in a failure
situation - the 2m hose means that two divers can exit cave/wreck in line ahaed
with no problems
