Maybe I am not being careful enough when disconnecting the assembly. =
Here is what EE told me:

connector.
>There is a little plastic nipple on the connector face that if used too =

>many times it will wear down and not hold the connection well. The =
reason=20

Here is what I don't get - JJ showed me the current version yesterday =
to discuss what the "problem" is. I see only that it is harder to clean =
the cartidges with the shrink wrap, but he says that if he does not use =
it, you guys fuck it up. Mine have no shrink wrap, and I have never =
broken any of the connections, and I open them all the time to clean the =
one-way cartridge valve inside and mine never come apart. JJ did change =
the assembly to include a short length of tube between the thru-hull =
fitting and the first one way disconnect, but that is so you won't break =
it of as easily.=20

Here is a summary of the responses that I received, on the list and =
privately. It seems
that there are a number of people who have had similar problems.

EE put shrink wrap on the connection for a good reason, it is not =
designed to be removed,
the plastic 'ears' will break off pretty soon. If you have broken =
the 'ears', the suggested solutions included:

    - make sure that you position the tube of the balance valve against =
your leg so that it twists the connection closed.

    - glue or tape the connection together.

EE have been extremely helpful- they picked up my original Techdiver =
post and have offered to replace the parts if I ship the valve to them.
