Kurt, I've always wondered just how much difference you get between a balanced 2nd stage and a high end unbalanced second stage (say a G250 vs a G200). I thought "balanced" meant the operation of the reg is not influenced by air pressure. If the reg has a balanced first stage then the pressure in the hose should remain the same. How is it then that a balanced 2nd stage actually makes use of the balanced part of the design if the intermediate pressure does not change? Regarding the case in point with the reg freeflowing because of the current. Wouldn't any reg freeflow if you put enough current through the front plate to push down the diaphram? I know that the Apex 2nd stages use an extra disc under the cover the try and prevent current flow pushing on the diaphram. Thoughts? Case in point - Just this weekend I was diving with someone that had a balanced secondary on the backup around the neck. We were playing with some scooters and I watched the individual scooter off in a cloud of bubbles as the reg started to freeflow. Mine is not balanced and I've never had that problem. A similar situation is also possible in higher current. Kurt > The TX40/50 are balanced. I think all the Apeks are. > > Not sure I agree with this no air balanced for secondaries, anyhow.
