Are we discussing this or resorting to insults as usual on this list? What I am saying is that DIR is sound as far as it goes, but, the concept has to be varied for environments, what suits a cave in Florida is not ideal for kitting up in a five foot swell in the English channel. Even more so trying to de-kit in a five foot swell and get back onto a rib. I have tried a single piece harness and in the tidal conditions here I found it unsuitable, there are divers in the UK who follow the single piece harness, I'm sorry but I have a permanent shoulder injury and I cannot get out of/into a single piece harness on a pitching deck so I use a Custom Divers harness with adjustable straps, if this offends you then we have to ban all divers with injuries or physical problems from entering the water. With my current configuration which varies little from the DIR philosophy I can kit and de-kit as fast so anyone else, with a DIR sacred rig I would be a liability to other divers during a surface incident. This is not an attack on DIR, it is a suggestion that the idea is good, but variation/addition to suit the environment/diver is the reality of doing the right thing for the environment. ----- Original Message ----- From: Jim Cobb <cobber@ci*.co*> To: Paul Wright <paul@ca*.co*.uk*>; Tech Diver <techdiver@aquanaut.com> Sent: Sunday, May 28, 2000 2:02 AM Subject: Re: Black is smarter than Bill Hamilton > Sorry Paul, but DIR is a *system*.
