Ahh, glad to see that Blacks reference standard is visible and working. > As I was thinking about the idea of letting one of my students- be they > medical students, interns, residents, or fellows- get away with a > medication error, it dawned on me... The reason why George and the > others get so pissy at times is the seriousness of their business. When you have an individual posting to a public forum, the kind of purely defined stupidity that Black is guilty of, it becomes an undeniable duty to *prove* him wrong in each and every instance. There is no hope that Black will learn anything, thats not the goal, or the issue any longer. The *only* issue is to expose, for all to see, the absolute error of his diving, thinking and posting. He probably wont be the one to die, God takes care of drunks and fools, but another not-so-knowledgeable reader might. At first, everyone involved tried to get Black to see what and why he was *wrong*, but his own self important image and ego wouldnt allow him to take a public spanking, even if its for his own good, and the good of others. Now it has degraded to the point where its a pissing contest. I have to read his shit (orders, you know) here and on rec.scuba, and not only does he not want to learn, his only motive and goal at this point seems to be to illustrate and illuminate his stupidity. He actually thinks he can take on and discredit the WKPP, DIR, GUE, GI, JJ, DV, *and* their accomplishments. He has dishonored the name of a dead friend, Marine, and WKPP diver, in his selfish attempt to ding the DIR movement in *some* way. Another funny thing about this guys posting, you never hear him talk about his buddy. He doesn't add if the 40% in his pony will be offered to his dive buddy (if he even has one) if there is a problem at 130fsw, which was his stated max depth for the dive his gear is configured to do. He seems to be real sure that he can survive bailing from 130 on 40%, but how about his buddy? This guy is supposed to be a doctor, and he seems to think its OK to roll the dice (in direct opposition to *all* the currently published and known info regarding submerged PP02 levels) with his buddy's life. Anyone with *any* deco software program can see, easily, why 40% is abject stupidity for bail out or deco mix, his two stated objectives. Also, even under "unplanned decompression", a friggin pony doesn't carry enough gas to do *anything* useful, *especially* full of 40%. These are just a few of his brilliant ideologies. The guy is a complete "Sidewalk Commando". Kinda like those cats you see riding ten speeds, and wearing a black leather jacket. There are just *so* many smoking holes in this guys story that he absolutely can *not* be ignored. Personally, I am going to beat him down with a shovel every time I see him post any of his sophomoric BS, and I am going to try and drag him and his posts as far from diving as I can. Fire and maneuver. I cant keep him from posting, but I can help him look like the moron he seems to enjoy being. I can tell you this: *anyone* can ask *any* question about *anything* here on this list, or to any of us regulars by private e-mail. You will get answers. They may not be the answers your ego or wallet want to hear, but they will be honest and to the best available knowledge. And, if we don't know the answer, we will send you to the guys who do. Where else can you go and communicate with the leading edge figures in an endeavor such as ours? FTR, I have flamed GI, Dan Volker myself. And been burned beyond recognition in return. "I have been diving this way for >20 years and I aint dead yet, blah, blah, blah. That shit is fine for caves, but it wont work up here in the PNW, blah, blah, blah." What I have learned from hanging around here for almost 4 years, and taking my lumps, is simple; There is so little known, and so much to learn. People like Black are a detriment to the medical profession, diving, dive training, and, most of all, learning. Guys like him always scream the loudest when they get socked. They are simply trying to move the spotlight off the ignorance and onto manners. At 300 fsw, 18,000 feet back into a hole in the ground full of water, manners mean less than nothing. When recovering the body of an oxtox victim, who was a close friend, manners seem very distant. When dealing with the likes of Black, manners aren't even an integer in the equation.
