I have both steel and aluminum back plates (actually will have two aluminum ones soon, an extra one for the gf), but was thinking......why do I need a steel one at all? wouldn't a "v" weight with the aluminum plate give me the same result? It is hard to believe that a v weight would unbalance the rig a noticeable amount. My thoughts are purely to enable me to pack less on a (overseas) dive trip, but i have never tried a v weight so don't know the issues. But it would seem an aluminum plate and appropriately sized v weight, with the same combined weight, would take up less space than two back plates, and give me the same functionality of either an aluminum or steel plate. any comments? mark > > Sent: Tuesday, April 18, 2000 3:23 PM > To: techdiver@aquanaut.com > Subject: ss or al plates > > > this is just my opinion but I have two different back plates.. one for > wetsuit and one for drysuit...
