this is just my opinion but I have two different back plates.. one for 
wetsuit and one for drysuit... Get the aluminum now because it is your 
immediate need and get the stainless one when you need it.

Besides that, one of the easiest things to sell to your buddies is an 
aluminum plate and the harness can be interchanged
