David, steel plates defeat the whole object of a balanced rig when using a wetsuit. Steel plates are used with a drysuit as additional weight to offset the insulation. I have both , and generally use the steel in salt water with C-4 and steel, or in fresh wiht C-4 if I have my Faber tanks instead of my Pressed Steels. Any tank is more buoyant in the bottom, and wings need to give more lift at the bottom and almost none at the top since the lungs do that. Weight on the hip is insignificant with the right wings.
