I don't know wbout everyone else, but I used rustoleum enamel.  Takes 
forever to dry but has stayed on wonderfully and helps prevent corrosion.  
That's the only thing I thought would actually hold.  I didn't think about 
the marker.  It runs really easily too, be careful.  JP
